GOALS: Students will be introduced to God’s creation of the world.  Hear vocabulary associated with the Torah portion of Bereshit and ask questions about how God created the world. Hear and see different interpretations of God’s creation plan.

8/25 Week 1 The Torah – what makes up a Torah?
Goals: Students will learn that the Torah is the five books of Moses.  It has five parts.  Each book captures different stories of a longer historical narrative.  Each time we read the Torah, we uncover and discover new interpretations.  The Sofer writes the Torah.  There are many specifics and adornments on the Torah itself.  It is kept in the Ark.

9/8 Week 2 What’s in the Torah?
Goals: Students will hear an overview of what is in each book of the Torah.  Learn the Hebrew names of the books of the Torah.  Explore one or more stories to share with others in the class. Begin to navigate how to find stories in the Torah.  Learn blessings for the study of Torah.  Learn Torah blessings for Aliyah.

Possible Torah workshop from Chabad.

Review the parts of the Torah from last week.

 

9/15 Week 3 Stories of Bereshit
Goals:  Students will review the stories from Bereshit through Lech Lecha.
